Streetlane Does Not Pay Their Bills

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
ZERO STARS. Our water was shut off today due to Streetlane non-payment (As our rental agreement outlines that Streetlane pays all utilities on our behalf) I confirmed with the City Utilities department that the Management Company failed to pay the water bill and there is a $200 outstanding unpaid balance. I've reached out to every email address, every phone number and online form including emergency maintenance for Streetlane Homes --- No response from anyone at the company or Roofstock (their affiliated company) Their emergency maintenance dispatch said that we are not the only ones this has happened to as they have heard from additional families today that are without power due to Streetlanes failure to pay utilities on behalf of their tenants. We have been occupants of a streetlane property for over 2 years and are up to date on all rent payments. This is inexcusable and their support is non-existent. Do NOT do business with Streetlane, take your money somewhere reputable that wont leave you and your children in a bind with no utilities.

The same thing happened to us yesterday (12/12/23). We as tenants have the right to terminate the lease as long as we give them a written notice within 5 days from the date of shut off.

The move out day also has to be within 30 days of the shut off date. We also have the option to pay the bill ourselves and have them deduct it from our rent.

We were made to pay rent and live in a contaminated home with no compensation for our suffering!

The response I got to this email: Hello,Thank you for reaching out to us.The property manager has confirmed that no refunds will be given as you have vacated the home and signed on to the early termination fees. We do not have a deposit on file to return as you have opened and closed an account with Rhino directly.Best,

Original review May 01, 2023
I will just simply post our last email to management about our experience, which we got responded back to as no further compensation would be given for our move out because we didn't request refunds before moving out which is a lie. Good Evening, I hope this email finds you well, but I wanted to discuss some portions of our move out on December 1st and receiving reparations for the horrific living conditions we were subjected to for the last 3 months. My name is Cherysse Durham (Co-applicant Darrow Durham) and we rented 4723 Misty Vale Ln Columbia,SC 29210. First, because of the extreme amount of mold in the home and on the walls it is unsafe for us to stay in the home very long to clean anything. We will make sure that the home is not left in complete shambles, but I will not be wasting anymore of my money and time cleaning after 10 or more sewage leaks have happened and we were left to deal with the cleanup on our own for issues that were none of my husband's and I fault. (Even with the open sewage pond in the front yard -the sewage still backed up into the home), I will personally take photos and send them to you in an email on Dec 2nd, but I will not stay in the home long enough to clean anything it has been deemed unsafe by my medical professional for me to do so. Secondly, because of the unsanitary living conditions we were forced to live in since day 1 of living in the home, we are requesting all of our deposits - fees and rent back from the date of August 26th - December 1st. So our Rhino deposit money, our prorated rent for August, full months rent for September, October, and November, and administration fees (all: rough estimate of 5,000 or more) to be returned back to us. By check or direct deposit. Our forwarding address is 1413 Farrington Way #A Columbia, SC 29210, or you can contact me by email or phone to discuss how this will be sent back to me. My husband and I experienced months of hardships and inconveniences that were completely ignored by our property managers (which we first heard from in November) . I will outline everything and I trust that I will not be considered as unreasonable in my demands. Upon move-in, the home was not cleaned professionally or by anyone at all. All reported in our move-in report: there was sawdust everywhere, *** in the toilets, nails in the carpets- I saved a bag of all the nails we found in the carpet. It was a snack size ziplock full of them, it was extremely dusty and nasty blinds and vinyl downstairs. From the initial move in we had sewage and plumbing issues with the master bathroom, some faucets and showers did not work, there is extremely poor water pressure, the dishwasher didn't work (lights come on but nothing happens), some light switches never worked, and the hallway bathroom lights blink like Linda Blair is in there with you. The mold in the master bathroom was evident with a horrible sickly smell, to the point I myself would never go in there. This was the initial move in. Several weeks later we had our first official extremely bad sewage leak. Fortunately, the home was still being managed by Great Jones and we spoke to our property manager immediately and about 2 days later maintenance came and patched the problem. He then at that time told us there was a blockage possibly from the tree roots and that it would back up again.Nothing was cleaned, sanitized, or done about the walls it contaminated, he patched it and left. Well he was right, it backed up as my husband was showering one day and created a wall of sewage about 3 inches from the ground, completely flooding the downstairs and the garage, Destroying furniture, appliances, and other valuables downstairs and in the garage. We put in maintenance request after request for it took Streetlane to take more than a week and half to respond to our requests but they then took about another week to come and patch it. While maintenance was there, they flooded the downstairs and garage several times during that visit and left saying it was fixed. It flooded again a week later, they came out and used a camera and saw that the tree roots was actually blocking the pipes, they decided it was best to dig up our yard and have the sewage pool into the front yard, which truly was never a fix once the hole filled with sewage, rain water, whatever it backed right up into the house causing more floods. 3 weeks later a pump was ran from the hole to the street, this worked as long as we didn't flush or shower or run water back to back, which is still not conducive to a comfortable living conditions. It backed up several more times and still has not been completely resolved, within the whole 3 and half months we stayed at the residence. During all this as I have expressed to many of your "I can only maintenance tickets" customer service agents, that I worked from home, and for all these issues I had to be in the home all day long, breathing in active mold, not being able to shower or use the bathroom, to the point that I was severely sick. I had an LGE test done by my provider and sure enough I have high levels of mold exposure. Upon talking to my neighbors they let me know that the roof in the home caved in and before we moved in it rained in the home for years and he stated he never saw them remove any walls or no debris came out of the home -he only saw them patch and paint over the exposed walls, it explained why the floors were bowed and shifting the high levels of mold and humidity that made it hard to breathe. I have asthma and sometimes I could not stop my chest from burning on several occasions. Then there was the pest, which you have pictures of all the bites we had all over our bodies. We and the pest control people determined there were: fleas, gnats, mosquitoes, ticks, and possibly termites (since the empty home next door has had an extreme breakout of them -it was safe to assume that we were having similar issues). It was determined by city sewage inspection that the sewage pond was definitely attracting pests into the home. No matter how much we sprayed they ate us alive. Which is just a miserable experience in itself. Simple fixes were also not addressed, the railing falling down, the closet doors falling off, and the dishwasher not working, and etc. Half of the issues we just couldn't remember to keep reporting since we had 30000 maintenance requests in, because yes I called everyday because I got no communication from property management. With all the issues we had no one ever reached out to us, we were scared to death to withhold rent even though we had every right to. We had no means to contact them nor did we have an email or name of our property manager. I do not care what you say, my number was blocked from customer service, my husband would call and get right through to someone, my email communications were blocked (they would come back to me as undeliverable) but my husband could email just fine. All because I was rightfully calling and emailing twice a day because I did not just want to put up with it any longer. It was a breach of my rental rights which SC law states that sewage issues are to be fixed within 14 days - not patched but fixed in 14 days. I was disrespected and hung up on several times by customer service and despite my frustration I tried to be respectable over the phone. I spent countless hours over the phone trying to reach a negotiable point with someone -no one said we understand this is not your fault, how about we move you, discount rent for a few months, NOTHING!!! I only spoke to someone once after DHEC and the BBB got involved 3 months after the fact!! I spent countless hours speaking with health inspectors, code enforcement, rental lawyers and the magistrate office, city regulations, and everyone trying to desperately find answers. The clear emotional and health risks about this whole process is way more than you can ever compensate me for, but I am not trying to be unreasonable since you did gracely terminate our leasing agreement, and frankly that is NOT enough. Your mishandling of our situation endangered us and our neighbors (our neighbor's kids played in our yard- with open sewage), which the city inspectors stated that the front and back yard are completely contaminated and most of the ground will have to be removed in order to rid the yards of contamination. We were breathing in contaminated air for months. Your ignoring our situation put us in a financial hardships, we got gym membership to shower, we used the bathroom in local restaurants and businesses around us (which is embarrassing), cleaning expenses, exterminations, medical bills and medications, inspection reports,we incurred moving expenses 2xs (which was completely unaccounted for), utility transfers and deposits have been incurred 2xs all in the last 3 months. It just goes on and on to the point I am not sure if I am even listing everything. The living conditions we were left in to sort out on our own was horrid. I just ask that you put yourself in our shoes, and really consider all we have gone through. We will not be greedy because frankly I would like to resolve this peacefully as I can. We only request all of our rental payments back and any refundable admin fees (again I estimate it to be around 4700 to 5000).

Deceptive and Distasteful Business Practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Streetlane Homes - Deceptive and Distasteful Business Practices
I moved into my home, under Progress Residential, back in October of 2020. Without warning, our lease was transferred to a company called Streetlane Homes At the time, I figured Im sure rental companies do this all the time, theyre probably just like progress residential Well, I was severely wrong. The issues started when our lease was coming up for renewal, and I literally had to call 10 times a day, for weeks on end. I finally got through to someone, which was a rude woman, LITERALLY eating on the phone, who eventually just hung up when I expressed how upset I was. I started the rigmarole of calling multiple times per day, because I was growing concerned that our lease was renewing in less than 30 days, and we had no renewal. Finally, I got through to some man, I do not remember his name, but I could tell he was irritated, and just trying to diffuse the situation, to get me off the phone. We finally received our lease renewal about a week and a half before our lease was up, Which is absolutely ridiculous, because that essentially forced our hand into accepting the much higher rate. We signed the lease as quick as we could, so we didnt end up homeless. I didnt realize that there was an illegal accelerated lease provision in the contract. In the state of Georgia, you cannot accelerate a tenants lease, simply because they terminated early. Persisted throughout the following few months, and my wife and I decided we could no longer stand the stress, so we decided to break our lease. Street lane claimed that I had to fulfill the lease if I was going to leave, $20,000? They also said they were going to keep my $2000+ security deposit. I decided to seek counsel, which is when I realized there was an illegal provision in the contract, so I reached out, and offered to resolve the situation privately. I offered to pay the next two months worth of rent, and for them to keep my security deposit. The following nightmare ensued: We have been harassed by debt collectors, Street lane homes has given them different numbers than theyve given us. Street lane has also mailed us, various different invoices, with different numbers on them, leading me to think that they have no idea what we actually owe And to this day, nearly 7 months later - Im being harassed by a debt collector claiming I owe $2700 BUT i could settle for 50% This company is an absolute scam, I would be truly embarrassed to even be involved with them as an employee, and I hope the multiple complaints Ive directed will catch their attention, Because we learned the hard Way, Street Lane will not pick up the phone no matter how many times you call, and anytime you email, you will receive a response from a different person who likely doesnt know whats going on. On top of 5+ business day times for replies. Do your research, they have a 1 star review on nearly every platform. As a business owner myself, I would be truly embarrassed if this was my company.

Con artist of a company

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I moved into my home back on 11/2021 and originally leased from Progress Residential. A year later streetlane acquired the property and its been a nightmare ever since. These people at streetlane property management are just as horrible as the comments say if not worst. Unprofessional, doesn't return calls, don't keep up with maintaining the property, takes your money and are in it for themselves. I rented the property from 11/21 to 11/23 because streetlane decided not to renew my lease ( more than likely they are selling the home but told me its nothing that i did on my end it was a decision from the landlord) and I've been a good tenant. Before moving out I made sure the property was thoroughly cleaned out, trash was properly put in the cans and on the curb. I wanted my full security deposit back which was $2200. I had my rent paid from 10/1 to 11/1 but moved out 2 days early on 10/30 and streetlane was suppose to give me a credit for those 2 days and send a check. I had previously read comments about the company and worried they would screw me over and keep my money so I wanted to make sure they didn't have an excuse in doing so. Well that's EXACTLY what they did. They sent me a check for $1039 and kept more than half of my security deposit!!! Seems like they used my money to renovate the home which they should've of done before I even moved in!! This is how much of a bunch of shiesters streetlane property management company is! Security deposit-$2200 Streetlane took out $650-Cleaning $25 Carpentry repair (mind u there is no carpet in the home) $100- Replace interior door (should've been replaced prior to move in) $125.86-install bifold door (should've been installed prior to move in) $10.00- install toilet paper bar (the one's they previously had wasn't good enough) $50- replace toilet seats ( it's their responsibility to do that as a courtesy to new tenants) $150 - install sink pop-up/stoppers ( should've done that prior to move in) $50- trash out ( property was cleaned and trash was out on the curb) MARK AND AVOID STREETLANE HOMES THEY ARE SLUM LORDS AND THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!!!

Horrible service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My lease ends on November 15th and when I logged in to pay rent on November first i noticed that it looked like the normal amount for a full month. So, I looked at the detailed amount and my assumption was correct they were charging me for the full month. I then attempted to contact Street Lane and via phone. I selected the current resident option on their automated line, and it kept ringing and would go to voicemail. I left a voicemail and called back about 15 more times between the next 2 days, and it was the same outcome, and nobody had called me back. The last time I call I selected the new resident option and what do you know I get to talk to somebody right away and then they transfer me to collections, and they told me that I am responsible to prorate the amount I owe myself. I was never told this before and I should have to assume I have to prorate my rent myself and their system should do it. I was then told that it will show a remaining balance and to just disregard and late payments calls and messages. I am now getting contacted by debit collectors due to this remaining balance showing on my account that I do not owe and the only thing Streetlane is doing about is telling me to disregard it. On top of that in August our soap dish fell off the wall in our shower and i put a work order in to have it fixed and they told me that it is my problem and they do not cover it. It fell. off the wall due to poor craftsmanship of the repairs in the house there was water and mold behind the soap dish which caused to fall off. They only wanted to fix it when I told them that is the reason why I am not renewing my lease.

Unacceptable not move in ready

My daughter who is 8 months pregnant rented a house in Greenville and they moved in a week ago. Tomorrow will be exactly a week that they moved in and they have no heat or hot water. My daughter has been on the phone with multiple people multiple times and this is yet to be resolved. She has three boys ages 2-9 and pregnant with her fourth boy and this is UNACCEPTABLE! I am her mother and I work for a law firm. No one should have been allowed to move into this house unless everything was checked and this was move in ready. The house was dirty and my daughter does not need the added stress your company has added to her. If this is not resolved by tomorrow, you will be hearing from my law firm. Their rent should be free this month for the added stress your company has caused!

Preferred solution: I would like for my daughter to get a full refund of her rent this month and her gas turned on and all utility and equipment be inspected and given the go ahead. Otherwise, they should be given a property rent free for your mess ups.

User's recommendation: Make sure your house is move in ready - ask all of the questions and do not move in unless you check everything that a management company should have checked.

Im recently moved out of a home rented out by street lane homes. They charged me $1500 to repaint the house and when we moved in the house hadnt even been painted correctly and we sent photo evidence to them. They charged a sales cleaning fee of $275. $150 for the trashcans because we put them out to be picked up for trash day after we moved out. I can never get an actual person on the phone.
